  • FRANCISCO "PACO" LOPEZ

    TENNIS DIRECTOR

    Francisco "Paco" Lopez grew up in East Palo Alto and discovered his passion for tennis while an EPATT student. Paco, a certified USPTA tennis coach since 2005, has helped build quality youth tennis programs at various Bay Area clubs and junior training academies. He is a patient and effective teacher who excels at finding creative strategies to help students improve their on-court skills and techniques.

  • JULIO HERMOSILLO

    HEAD TENNIS PRO & PLAYER DEVELOPMENT LEAD

    Born in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico, Julio was 8 when he moved to East Palo Alto. He started EPATT in third grade. Certified as USPTA in 2011, Julio started coaching at EPATT when he was 17 and officially joined the staff in 2011. He also manages EPATT’s traveling tournament team, aptly named Rogue Tennis. An inspiring role model for so many, Julio is happy to be able to give back to his community.

    I was born and raised in East Palo Alto and am the youngest of two brothers. I enjoy being able to teach and guide kids within my community. I’m privileged to serve as the role model I once aspired to have during my childhood. My goal is to share the message that sports and physical activity have the potential to serve as pathways to free education, healthy lifestyle, and lifelong memories.

    As a passionate and experienced tennis coach, l've dedicated my career to helping players of all ages and skill levels reach their full potential on the court.

    l've developed a unique coaching style that emphasizes technical precision, mental toughness, and a love for the game. My coaching philosophy focuses on creating a supportive and challenging environment that empowers players to improve their skills, build confidence, and develop a winning mindset. Whether you're a beginner looking to learn the basics or a seasoned player aiming for the pros, I'm committed to helping you achieve your tennis goals.

Jr.Tennis 9 & Under (JTU9)

Age: 9 years old and younger

Schedule: Tue/Thu/Fri 3:50-5:15pm

Sessions: Sept -Dec, Jan-Apr, Apr-May

Location: Cesar Chavez - Ravenswood Middle School Tennis Courts (EPA)

All levels are welcome!

This is our entry-level class for ages 9 and under. They will learn and practice basic athletic and life skills. If they complete multiple sessions there's opportunities to move up in level and learn how to hit and play sets by learning to play points using skillbuilding games, drills and activities!

Goals - To learn and practice forehands, backhands, split-step, improve footwork, improve rallying, areas/lines of the court and other tennis terms. Improve ABC’s of sports!

Extras - Field trips, playdates, Trips to professional and college tennis matches., and tennis gear!

Jr. Tennis 18 Under(JTU18)

Age: 6th to 12th Grade(11 and under by coaches invitation only)

Schedule: Tue/Thu/Fri 3:50-5:15pm

Sessions: Sept-Dec, Jan-Apr, Apr-May

Location: Cesar Chavez - Ravenswood Middle School Tennis Courts (EPA)

All levels are welcome!

Group lessons and match play!

This is our entry-level class for 18 and under students. They will learn and practice entry level technique along with many life skills. If they complete multiple sessions there's opportunities to move up in level and learn how to play sets by learning to play points, serving, and keeping score. 

Goal - To learn and improve forehands, backhands, split-step, footwork, rallying, areas/lines of the court, tennis terms, playing points, and competing by playing games and sets. Play sports for school or club teams. Practice and improve the ABC’s of sports!

Extras - Field trips, playdates, professional events, and tennis gear.

By invitation only!

Tournament Team is for the experienced player that has been playing for at least one year and has goals of playing in Middle/High School, College, or Club Team along with tournaments and prefers challenging and competitive practices.

Schedule: Mon/Wed/Fri 3:50-5:15pm

Sessions: Aug-Dec, Jan-Apr, Apr-May

Location: TBD

Skills - Improve agility, balance, coordination, and strength. Improve technique and tactics, and spend most practice playing sets and matches to strengthen the emotional and mental aspects of the game.

Goals - Improve consistency, direction, depth, spins, and power, and play lots of sets and matches. 

Extras - Field trips, playdates, professional events, and tennis gear. Playing USTA/UTR Tournaments regularly to achieve a ranking. Playdate matches against other programs in the area. Trips to professional and college tennis matches.
